Benjamin and Carrie moved to Onondaga Valley, a suburb of Syracuse just north of the Onondaga Indian Reservation at Nedrow. Onondaga Valley, home of Hiawatha, was on an early east-west trail used first by the Iroquois and then by the early settlers. Benjamin became a storekeeper/ grocer and was postmaster, town clerk and member of the School Board of Onondaga Valley.
