George Smith, Sr. was born on his father Joseph Smith, Sr.'s farm in Mount Pleasant Township, near Bonneauville, on the Bonneauville and Oxford Road, in Adams County, Pennsylvania, part of the original homestead of his grandfather, Charles Smith, Sr. The next six children, younger siblings of George, (Jacob, Catharine, Joseph Jr., John, Marian, and Alloviece) were also born on that same farm, later purchased by their father in its entirety, but sold by him about 1832 around the time of grandfather Charles's death. The last four of George's siblings (Sarah, Louis, Pius, and Cordelia) were born on a farm near Gettysburg. Later in life, George was a farmer in Adams County as well.
