Per The Davenport Daily Gazette Oct 30, 1884, Haak was a respected Davenport merchant. He came to Davenport in 1854 and opened a dry goods store on Second St. just west of Main St. For 16 years he did business but sold out in 1870 to return to Germany. However he came back to Davenport two years later and again started an establishment on West Second St., and sold out in 1879 to go to Harlan, Shelby County, Iowa. He was 52 years old. Interment at City cemetery. He left a wife and daughter and an aged father and a sister, Mrs. Krabbenhoft.
