Walter M. Barski, 74, of 1031 East 16th Street, Berwick, died at 8:21 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2005, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Walter was born in Mocanaqua, January 17, 1931, a son of the late Adam and Zophia Nichols Barski. He graduated from the former Shickshinny High School and served with the US Army from November 1949 to May 1953.
He received the Combat Infantryman's Badge and Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars.
Mr. Barski retired from the shipping department of Wise Foods, Berwick.
A member of First United Church of Christ, Nescopeck, he enjoyed reading, walking and writing poems.
He was preceded indeath by his wife of 33 years, the former Margaret "Peggy" Bittner, on January 15, 2004; by a son Kurt Barski, October 30, 1975; and brothers and sisters.
He will be remembered by three sons: Gary Barski and his wife, Melissa, Berwick; David Barski and his wife, Kathy, Nescopeck; Kris Barski and his wife, Debbie, Berwick; foster daughter, Clara Jean Harvey, Danville; five grandchildren: Kyle; Athena; Bethany; Breanna; and Brooke; two brothers: Stanley Barski of New Jersey; and George Barski of Sweet Valley.
Entrusted to the care of the Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck, where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rick Dennison, his pastor, officiating. He will be laid to rest with military honors next to his beloved wife in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
