The family called this young man Harrison in order to avoid confusion as his father was also named William. In a letter written in 1870 William's father told a niece that, "Harrison was shot in the ware [sic.] July the Third year of the ware." A member of Co. H, 9th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, he died of wounds received on June 27, 1864 at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia.
