Dorothy "Dottie" Mueller Braun (86). Passed away suddenly on July 10, 2014. Devoted mother of Susan Rice (Steven), Carol Braun (Charles Flexner) and Janet Braun (Jeffrey Heintz) and loving grandmother of 8 grandchildren, Laura, Julia, James and Anne Rice, Sara Lindsey, Kristin, Kevin and Brian Heintz and 3 step grandchildren, James, Robert and Christopher Flexner. Beloved daughter of the late Robert and Ethel Mueller. Dear sister to Ruth Jones and the late Betty Haungs and Robert "Syl" Mueller. Dottie graduated from Lockland High School in 1946 as class valedictorian. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1950. While at UC, Dottie, a multi-sport varsity athlete, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board and received the coveted "C" ring awarded annually to the outstanding female graduate. In 1969, Dottie earned her Masters degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University. Her career as a licensed independent social worker spanned 30 years. Dottie was a longstanding community volunteer who served for 12 years on the Finneytown Local Schools Board of Education and for 25 years as troop leader of Mariner Girl Scout Troop 1221. She was active in and served as President of the Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, and was active in many other organizations, including YWCA, Friars Club and Girl Scouts. She was elected to the University of Cincinnati Athletic Hall of Fame, the Lockland High School Hall of Fame and the Finneytown Local Schools Hall of Fame. Dottie is also included in the Book of Lives and Legacies at the National Women's Hall of Fame. She was an enthusiastic supporter of UC Athletics and an avid world traveler. Visitation at Vorhis & Ryan Funeral Home, 310 Dunn Street, Lockland, 45215 on Tuesday, July 15th from 5-8 PM. A funeral service will be at Christ Church Glendale, 965 Forest Avenue, Glendale, 45246 on Wednesday, July 16th at 11 AM, followed by interment at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dorothy Mueller Braun Scholarship Fund - University of Cincinnati Foundation, P.O. Box 19970, Cincinnati, OH 45219.
