Frances Elizabeth (Gill) Briggs Lewis, 91, of Mattoon, IL, formerly of Palestine, IL, died at 5:45 p.m. on June 11, 2014 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL. She was born November 16, 1922 in Royalton, IL, the daughter of Huston Otto Gill and Ella (Brimberry) Gill. She was a librarian at Lincoln Trail College for a time and was a member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69 Auxiliary and the Mattoon Eagles Lodge #3438. She was known for her frequent and infectious laughter.

Frances married Ralph Biggs in 1939, and he preceded her in death. She then married Leland Lewis and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1964. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Donna (Biggs) Dunlap; and her granddaughter, Sherry Hesh.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Audrey (Biggs) O'Donnell and Norma Jean (Biggs) Parker; her grandchildren, Ralph & Nelda Dunlap, Susan & Jim Hesh, Frank & Rilla Dunlap; great-grandchildren, Amber Dunlap, Kathleen Dunlap, Thomas Hesh, Anthony Hesh, Robert Dunlap, Brittany Ann Dunlap.

A private family service was held at the Palestine Cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine was in charge of the arrangements.
