Banker. He was the son of Henry Disston and Mary Steelman. He graduated from Episcopal Academy. He later became the treasurer of the Tacony Trust and Savings Bank which was originally founded to help Disston Saw Works' employees in buying homes in the "ideal Victorian village" of Tacony. He later went on to become president of the Henry Disston and Sons Saw Works. He was the president of the German-American Title and Trust Company, and was a director of the Union League in Philadelphia.

He was the father of William Dunlop Disston (1888 - ) and Pauline Disston Wanamaker (1896-1956).The son of William Disston and Rachel Elizabeth Dunlop. He is identified in Augustus Thomas's autobiography as a cornetist in many of Charles Hoyt's productions.
