Whiteville – Marguerite Virginia Hardee Greer, 96, of Whiteville died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
The wife of the late District Attorney Lee Jackson Greer, Sr., Marguerite was the daughter of Arthur Jennings and Annie Lee Welch Hardee of Greenville, N.C. Marguerite Greer was also preceded in death by her son, Lee Jackson Greer, Jr., grandson David Elliott Vick, and her sister Arthur Lee Hardee Moore.
Marguerite Greer taught mathematics, business and typing at Whiteville High School for 40 years. She helped shape the lives of many Columbus County residents and was much loved by students and colleagues.
Marguerite Greer is survived by her daughter Dr. Laura Anne Greer Vick and her husband Gilbert Vick of Durham, N.C.; grandson Brian Jackson Vick and wife Nicole of Oak Island, N.C.; grandson Stephen Greer Vick of Durham, North Carolina; granddaughter Dr. Anna Elizabeth Vick and husband Andrew Thon of Gainesville, Florida; great-granddaughter Clara Marguerite Thon; several nieces and nephews; and special friends.
Visitation will be held at the McKenzie Mortuary on Friday, July 11, 2014, from 7-9 PM. Services will be conducted by the Reverend Paul Stallsworth at the Whiteville United Methodist Church at 2 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2014. Burial will be at the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
