Frederick P. Miller (1768-1832),son of Euphemia "Fame" (Schaefer) (1741-1824) and Frederick Miller (1733-1814) of Allentown, Monmouth County, NJ, married Ann/Anne Rogers (1780-1865), daughter of Abigail Unknown and Abraham Rogers of Middlesex Co., NJ, February 7, 1799, in Middlesex Co. NJ (Marriage Records, New Brunswick Court House, Middlesex Co., New Jersey: Marriage #185 on Page 8, in "Marriage Record Book #1").
After his marriage,Frederick and family began a slow move north through NJ and then west to Western New York, which had been recently opened to settlement. He settled his family in the 1820's on two parcels of 80 and 53 acres each in Lot 88 in the Town of Greece, Monroe County, NY,where the whole family worked on his farm and in a large coopering business. The Erie Canal cut across one corner of the 53 acre parcel. The property was very near but not on the present Ridge Road (104), and also near the present Falls Cemetery, where are buried Dr. Zaccheus and Anna (Clark) Colby, friends of the Millers and in-laws of his son, Frederick Walker Miller, who had married their daughter, Belinda. Frederick P. died in Greece March 29, 1832,leaving a detailed Will. In the spring of 1835 seven of his nine children and his wife, Ann, moved West and settled together along the present US 12, Five Points,Mason Township, Cass County, MI. Frederick was an astute businessman and gave real meaning to the term, "family business", as shown in the 1830 US Census, Greece, NY, where fifteen people, mostly young men, lived in the Miller household! The amount of barrel-making material inventoried in his Will was substantial, and obviously the Miller business provided work for a number of young men who lived with the family.
