Justus Rhodes Arms was the son of John Arms and Catherine Rhodes Arms. He was born May 29, 1814 in Pembroke, Genesie Valley, New York. On March 1, 1839 he married Philena Scott in Indiana. They were the parents of John, William, Dewitt, Martha, Albert, Louisiana, Sarah, Richard, Horace, Ellen and Jessie Arms.Justus was the son of John and Catherine Rhodes Arms. He was born May 29, 1814 in Pembroke, Genesie Valley, New York. On March 1, 1839 he married Philena Scott in Switzerland County, Indiana. They were the parents of John, William, Clinton Dewitt, Martha, Albert Alonzo (1851-1934), Louisiana Melissa (Lucy 1853-1931), Sarah, Roy Richard, Ellen, and Jessie Arms (b 1862).

In 1841 they moved to Freeport, Illinois and in 1849, just after Wisconsin became a state, they moved to Bridgeport. They built a home for their family near the Wisconsin River. Justus taught in a log school house, near the site of the brick school house from which he was buried in 1876. The funeral service being preached by Rev GW Nuzum to a very large congregation. He was one of the finest teachers in the Bridgeport school.
