"Doc" Parriott, a man of about 52 years of age, who has been living here for some time, was killed Wednesday while assisting in repairs which were being made on the Rogue River bridge.
A new bent was being put in at the approach on the farther side and the structure was supported by means of false timbers and raised by two jackscrews so that the old timbers could be taken out and new ones put in. The new bent had been raised very nearly to its place, when one of the jackscrews slipped out and the bridge collapsed, the heavy beam of the bent catching Parriott against another beam, crushing and killing him instantly.
Two other men under the bridge escaped miraculously, as one side of the bridge was supported so that it did not reach the ground. Hiram Drake was badly cut about the head and face, but not seriously injured.
