Elizabeth Jane Muir was the first born child of Scottish immigrants, William Smith Muir and Jane Robb Muir. She was born on 20th of October 1844 in Nauvoo, Illinois. She, along with her parents were forced to leave Nauvoo. Her father joined the Mormon Battalion while her pregnant mother waited at Winter Quarters. Elizabeth Jane passed away on the 9th of December 1846 and was buried in the Florence Cemetery, along with hundreds of Mormons.
