Obituary:Cumberland County News, Burkesville, Kentucky, May 2, 2005
Fairy Fern Coop Neathery 1908-2005
Fairy Fern Coop Neathery, 96, of Peytonsburg, passed away April 1 at Cumberland County Hospital. Services were held at Norris-New Funeral Home on April 3. Fairy was the granddaughter of John E. Coop and Susannah Monk, both born in Virginia in 1805.2. Saying goodbye to Mrs. Fairy and PencilApril 6, 2005 IssuePencil we write. Those were the words Mrs. Fairy Coop Neathery used to begin her weekly column to the Cumberland County News that she enjoyed writing for several years. Mrs. Fairy died Friday, April 1 at the age of 96. The Cumberland County News would like to say a loving good-bye to Mrs. Fairy and to Pencil. Her wit, charm and advice will be greatly missed by the newspaper staff and everyone who read her column. "She was one-of-a-kind," Cumberland County New editor Cyndi Pritchett said. "I never met her, yet I felt like I knew her just from reading her column. You never knew what she was going to say. She spoke her mind. I admired that and her love for Jesus. She was a witness to Him in just about every column she wrote. She had local readers, but out-of-state fans too," Pritchett said. "I had a reader from California call the office because Mrs. Fairy didn't have her column in the newspaper. They wondered what happened and where she was." We want to leave you with some of Mrs. Fairy's own words . . . "I have been looking out my window at the beautiful fall flowers, goldenrods, stick weed and some white flowers. It sure is a beautiful scene, my Kentucky homeland. I thank the Lord for the view of these wonderful flowers. I know He placed them near my log cabin for me to see."
