Helena "Mousey" Bernard Bertrand
Helena Bertrand was born May 26, 1939, in Rayne, LA, to Ovide A. and Marie Louise LaCroix Bernard. She died peacefully on July 6, 2014. Services will be held Wednesday, July 9 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be Tuesday 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Wednesday 8:00 am until 10:00 am. The rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Tuesday.
Mrs. Bertrand attended elementary schools in Rayne and was in the Rayne High Class of 57. She also attended SLI.
She taught elementary schools at St. Joseph, Rayne; St.Christopher, Metairie; and Kehoe, Metairie. She was also a long-time secretary at St. Charles Borromeo Elementary, Destrehan.
Mrs. Bertrand was a long-time member of the ABWA. Mousey enjoyed being a long-time counselor and supervisor at Camp Maryhill, a Catholic girls' and boys' summer camp.
She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Frank; a sister, Marjorie; two nephews, Frank and Dennis; and one great-niece, Lauren.
She is survived by one sister, Florence; one nephew, Ray Carr; two nieces, Annette Carr and Linda Crum; great nephews and nieces,Robert McClellan, Todd, Max, and Annie Crum, Joey, Jordan, and Ashlyn, and Carrie Bernard; three great-great-nephews and a niece.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors o fLafayette General ICU and Long-Term Care for their excellent care and compassion.
Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2, Mausoleum, Rayne, LA.
