Major League Baseball Player. The left-handed pitcher started his big-league career with the Cincinnati Reds in 1894. He returned to the majors in 1897 for a six-year run with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was 25-13 with a 2.95 earned run average and 326 innings pitched in 1888. He followed with 24-14, 2.57 ERA and 333 IP in 1899; 20-6, 2.88 ERA, 234 IP in 1900; 18-10, a league-leading 2.18 ERA, 252 IP in 1901; and 20-6, 1.95 ERA and 231 IP in 1902. He then went to the New York Highlanders for one season before going to the Boston Americans in 1904, a year in which he had a 21-11 record, 2.04 ERA and 281 IP. The following season he was 22-9, 2.48 ERA and 271 IP. He moved on to the Washington Senators in mid-1908 and pitched for them in 1909. After a year's absence he pitched in one game for Cincinnati in 1911. His career totals for 15 seasons showed a 197-116 record, 2.77 ERA and 263 complete games in 318 starts. Tannehill also was a decent hitter. His lifetime batting average was .256 (361 for 1,410), and he had 55 doubles, 23 triples, five homers and 141 runs batted in.
