Harry D. Smith, former chief of the Warners Volunteer Fire Department, died today at Castle Rest Nursing Home. He was 87 and lived at 3547 Kirk Road, Warners .
Mr. Smith was a native of Perth, Ontario, Canada and lived in Warners since 1935. He was formerly employed as a custodian and bus driver at the Warners school and West Genesee school district.
He is an exempt member of the Warners Volunteer Fire Department. While he was chief a new fire house on Newport Road was built under his leadership.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Warners Men's Club and Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Warners .
Surviving are two sons, John A. Smith of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Leonard Darrell Smith of Warners ; two daughters, Ruth Bird of San Diego, Calif., and Alice Salvetti of Warners ; a brother, Kenneth of Perth; three sisters, Doreen Dawn of Sharbot Lake, Ontario, Canada, and Regena Dillon and Sadie Bissonette, both of Toronto, Canada; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Warners .
