Jackson Allen, State Pioneer, Is Dead Here. Had Resided in City 44 Years and Was One of Falls' First Motormen
Jackson W. Allen, 81, member of the Montana Society of Pioneers and a resident of Great Falls for the last 44 years, died Monday evening at his home, 213 Twenty-eighth street south, after a week's illness. He had been active up to the time of his illness and for the last few years had been truck gardening. Mr. Allen was one of the first three motormen operating street cars in the city and was employed with the street railway for many years.
He was born April 22, 1850, at Carl county, Ohio, and was a pioneer member of the Woodmen of the World and was also a member of Masonic lodge No. 406 of Leesville, Ohio. He was an early day colonizer, bringing people into the state from St. Paul. Mr. Allen won the first prize for the best war garden raised during the contest conducted here during the war. Before operating his truck garden he was employed as a carpenter for some time.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Donna D. Raymond and Miss Coyla C. Allen, both of Great Falls, and one son, Roy L. Allen of Renton, Wash.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 in the rose room of the Merrill mortuary with the Rev. Frank E. Walters, pastor of the Christian church, officiating. Burial will be in Highland cemetery.
