Mabel was the daughter of Samuel Jeter and Leah 'Lear' (Truett) Hunnicutt. She was born and died (at approximately 8 months of age) in a cabin near the confluence of Hammer Branch and Deep Creek, which is now in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Her burial site is located directly across the road from the old home, and is marked by a large rock at the head and stones around her body.
