WANATAH -- Oscar T. Fitzgerald, 75, of East First Street, died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday in Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. Mr. Fitzgerald was retired from Wanatah Mercantile Co. He was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Sandy Hook, Ky. He moved to Wanatah 48 years ago. On April 29, 1939, in Valparaiso, he married Viola Gast. She survives with a daughter, Judith Goodpaster of Kouts; a son, James of Wanatah; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Gladys Howe, Dorothy Rowe and Martha Brown, all of Valparaiso. Mr. Fitzgerald was a World War II veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post 403.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Peek Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and after 8 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, where a prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.
