Israel was the son of Jacob Chandler and Ann (Alisabeth) Taylor who married at the Hopewell Meeting in Frederick Co., VA on Sep. 27, 1764. They sold their land there in 1767, and it's assumed moved to Newberry County shortly thereafter. Israel was probably born in Newberry County. He married Lydia Gilbert, eldest daughter of Caleb and Ann Gilbert of Newberry County.
