Suggested edit: Verl D. Stone, 90, of Spanish Fork, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at his daughters home in Leland. Verl was born June 3, 1914 in Salem, Utah to Joseph Adams and Mary Johnson Stone. He attended school in Salem and Spanish Fork. He served an honorable mission to the Western States Mission and later Washington D.C. Temple with Helen. During retirement he served as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple.

Verl married Helen Jennie Turner in the Salt Lake Temple on September 23, 1938. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary two months before Helens death in 1998.

He owned and operated the Spanish Fork Lumber Company for about 33 years. He built several homes in Utah County.

Verl served in various church callings as well as City Councilman, State Legislator, and Utah County Commissioner.

He is survived by his children: Gary (Judy) Stone, Loraine (Tony) Peck, DeAnn (John) Tuckett, Kathryn (Ron) Tobler, Marilyn (George) Paice, Arlene Olsen, Mary (Paul) Wignall; 36 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Bea Wilson. He was preceded in death by his wife; brother, Lynn Stone; sisters, Zella Hepworth and Lenora Stoker; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 13, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Walker Family Mortuary Chapel, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork. Friends may call on Friday at the mortuary from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
