Earl Thomas Strickland, age 74, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at The McDowell Hospital. Born in Madison County on June 7, 1940, he was a son of the late James Merritt Strickland and Jessie Rathbone Strickland. He was a well- known owner and operator of Strickland Electric and Plumbing Supply. He took great pride in working in his yard and enjoyed wood working and family genealogy. His family will remember him as a beloved husband, father and papaw and he was their "hero". Mr. Strickland will certainly be missed by his many customers he served over the past 37 years. He was a veteran of the US Army. Preceding Mr. Strickland in death was a son, Ronald Strickland.

Surviving Mr. Strickland is his wife of 50 years, Hazel Haney Strickland; two sons: Mark Strickland and wife Dana of Marion and Wesley Strickland and wife Angela of Marion; two daughters: Tammy S. Ollis of Old Fort and Vickie Strickland of Marion; two brothers: Kenneth Strickland of Marion and Carroll Strickland of Charleston, SC; two sisters: Etrula Lowe of Marion and Clara Brinkley of Marion; six grandchildren: Chris, Randal, Chelsea, Tara, Hannah and Hunter.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 4:00 pm in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Robbie Waddell officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, prior to the service, at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at South Estatoe Baptist Church Cemetery.
