David was born and grew up at the Hepler farm near Mendon. Mary Ann was born at Barren Run and lived there about ten years. She went to school in the little red school house with slab seats. In 1844 the family moved to a farm near Glenwood. Mary Ann lived here until she was married to David on 29 Nov 1855 at Mt. Pleasant by Rev. Sherrer. They went to housekeeping in a three room log house on the Hepler farm and lived there for five years. Three of the children were born there. They then moved to Overton near Mt. Pleasant and lived there a number of years. Mary’s oldest brother Joseph had enlisted in the Civil War. In a letter from Joseph to his little sister, he indicated that he had received a box full of things to eat from David and Mary Ann. Among the things were sausage, about three messes and cherries which he stewed. Next David and Mary moved to the Weibel farm near Glenwood where they stayed for a good while. From there they moved to Scottdale where they lived for about twelve years. Mary Ann’s mother died at the David Hepler home in Scottdale on 23 Dec 1894. They then moved to Charleroi, PA where they died. It was told that two of their sons were in the real-estate or insurance business, at Charleroi when the town was being built up. They are buried in the Charleroi Cemetery.
