Martha Malinda Black Neely, wife of John Neely, died at 12:30 this morning at her home on Springville R.R.2 following an illness since last Sunday. She was born in Wayne County, Kentucky, March 22, 1870, to William M. and Nancy Margaret Martin Black. Her marriage to John Neely occurred in Wayne County, Kentucky in 1888. She is survived by her husband, by six sons, Willie, and Edward Neely of Kentucky, Euell and George Neely of Indianapolis, Floyd and Walter Neely of Springville; four daughters, Mrs Clint (Charity) Casada, of Kentucky, Mrs Willie (Sarah) Jones of Hobbieville, Indiana, Mrs. Melford (Abbie) Godsey of Lawrence County and Mrs. Rathmiel (Vangie) Thompson of Springville. Also four brothers, George Black of Stinesville, James E. Black of Marion, Ethan Black of Kentucky, and Charles Black of Span Hill, Kentucky; two sisters, Mrs Mary Etta Cassada of Marion, and Mrs Harriett Stipp of Miami, Oklahoma. She belonged to the Patton Hil Baptist Church. The remains were prepared for buriel at the Day-Carter & Roach funeral home and this afternoon were returned to the residence to lie in state. Funeral services will be conducted from the Springville Methodist church at 2:30 Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Henry Skinner and the Rev. Earl Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Springville Methodist cemetery.
One son Samuel Neely was born September 20, 1901 and died April 15, 1904. His clothes caught on fire. Do not know where he is buried.
