Vincent F. Fitzgerald, 64, died September 18 in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, following a brief illness. He was born in Lafayette on August 23, 1924, graduated from Stockwell High School and earned a mechanical engineering degree from Purdue University in 1950. He married Phyllis Parvis in Lafayette in 1947, and she survives. He served with the U.S. Air force during World War II, and was part of the Asian Theater in the Mariana Islands, where he won the Distinguished Flying Cross and an air medal with two oak leaf clusters. He was a construction purchasing agent for Alcoa before retiring August 1, 1987, in Pittsburgh. He had worked for Alcoa for 34 years in Texas, Washington, Indiana, Kentucky, Brazil, Pennsylvania, and in Australia. Surviving with his widow are three daughters, Kathleen Fitzgerald of Frankfurt, West Germany, Patricia Chamberlain of Acton, Mass., and Victoria Cook of Sterling, Virginia. Also his mother, Stephanie Fitzgerald of Lafayette, and five brothers; Larry, Patrick, Robert, and Max Fitzgerald, all of Lafayette, and Stephen of Sterling, Virginia. The body was returned to Lafayette for service and burial. Service in Hahn Funeral Home Chapel and St Mary's Cathedral September 22, Monsignor Fred Potthoff officiating. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorials to the Salvation Army.
