Nancy Margaret Scranton, nee, Crowder, was born May 9, 1857, Nebo, Illinois, and passed away at her home at Pleasant Hill, Ill., December 22, 1936, at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 13 days. She was the daughter of James and Mahala Crowder. To this union was born six children, namely; Frank, Austin, Nancy, Isaphene, Ella and Elizabeth. At this period of the family life the father passed away and the mother remarried and to this union was born three daughters, Jane, Etta and Laura, and one son, Charley. Her girlhood was spent in the vicinity of Nebo, Illinois. On August 12, 1876, she was united in marriage to Nathan Scranton, also of Nebo, at Bowling Green, Mo. To this union was born two daughters, Mrs. Clara M. North of Pleasant Hill, and Mrs. Oral Willmering of Nebo. She was a devoted and very loyal wife to the husband who passed away April 19, 1911. Besides the two daughters she is survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and sister, and was beloved by a host of relatives and friends. She was a member of the Christian Church, and formerly of the Royal Neighbors' and Rebecca Lodges of Nebo, Illinois.
