He was born in Wayne County on Jan. 25, 1923, to Raymond and Jeanette Merkamp Weiss and had lived in this area all of his life with more than 20 years in the Hagerstown area.
He was a farmer and he retired in 1989 as an employee of Bruns Brothers Excavating.
Survivors include wife, Mary J. Weiss, to whom he would have been married 57 years on May 3, 2005; daughters, Teresa (Bob) Tannyhill of Marion, Ohio, Krista (Dennis) Glander of West Manchester, Ohio, Jane (Dennis) Bennett of Seymour, Tenn., Carolyn (Donny) Talbott of Hagerstown, Margaret Williamson of Connersville; sons, Mark (Sandy) Weiss of Fairbanks, Alaska, Michael (Shirley) Weiss of Centerville, Luke (Clovetta) Weiss of Centerville, Matthew (Brenda) Weiss of Greens Fork; brothers, Edward (Donna) Weiss of Daleville, Charles (Ellen) Weiss of Greens Fork; sister, Betty (Richard) Stubbs of Richmond; 23 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, two daughters, Mary Joanna Weiss and Ann Cox, and three brothers, Ralph, Herb and Vernon Weiss, are also deceased.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 16, 2005, from 5-8 p.m. at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary, where services will be conduced by Rev. Bob Fannin. Burial will be at a later date in West Lawn Cemetery.
