While enjoying a visit at the home of friends in Watertown, Walter Ames, 76, of Richland a retired farmer and a veteran of the Civil war suffered a stroke which resulted in death. He and his wife Rebecca McClary Spicer Ames were on their way to Carthage where they had planned to visit Mrs William Sanderson a stepdaughter. They also had two sons, Clarence and Earl Ames of Syracuse. Walter was the son of David and Betsy Ames and saw duty in the newly organized Ambulance Corps of 1863.
Burial was in Richland cemetery.
