Dewey Hastwood Wheeler was the son of Noble H and Millie Bennett Wheeler. He was the oldest son of eight children.
He answered the call of his country at the beginning of the World War I, joining the Navy in April 1917. He was one of the first to enlist from Brooklyn, serving nearly two years. He was honorably discharged to come home to help care for his mother and her family.
He was married to Erma Stanley of Victor on Jan. 4, 1928. He was much interested in the little home he had provided for his wife and himself. He lived only a short time to enjoy it.
His father preceded him in death March 10, 1918 and his brother Traverse in 1927.
