The only survivor in the car was the driver and head of the family, Lavernon Bauscher, 28, of Lena, Ill., who state police said apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

Bauscher suffered from concussion and a broken leg but was taken to a Belvidere hospital where doctors expect him to recover.
The truck driver, Ben Connelly, 58, of Roscoe, Ill., who was driving a semi-trailer truck loaded with chemicals, escaped with minor injuries. The truck was owned by the Chemical Manufacturing Company of Beloit, Wis.
