Simeon Corneilus Edens was born on Monday, April 1, 1918 to parents Reuben Elijah Edens and Hassie Melvina Vandeventer Edens (see links below) as their seventh of twelve children. He was named for his paternal grandfather, Simeon Patton Edens, but he was commonly known in the family as "Neil," a shortened version of his middle name. According to family tree information, Neil was born in Yardelle, Arkansas; his World War II Draft Registration Card lists the nearby town of Hasty, Arkansas instead (both in Newton County), which is where he was living in his first U.S. census in 1920.
Neil married Noma Bell Still (see link below) on June 17, 1939 in Freck, Arkansas, and the couple produced three children. Neil supported his family working as a heavy truck driver for companies such as General Electric and Atlantic Richfield. A resident of Kennewick, Washington, he had relocated his family from the Ozarks of Arkansas to the Tri-City region of southeastern Washington state in 1948.
Neil passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 at Kennewick General Hospital at age 95. He and Noma were just three days away from their 74th wedding anniversary when he passed. Neil was interred at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland, Washington with arrangements by Einan's Funeral Home of Richland. Neil's older brother Maynard was also interred at Sunset Memorial Gardens upon his passing in 2001. Neil's wife Noma passed in 2015 and now rests next to her husband.
