Alden Battershell, 88, of Jerseyville, died in Jersey County Hospital, Friday, April 17, 1970 at 1 am. Mr. Battershell was born in Calhoun County, Aug. 15, 1881, a son of Samuel and Nancy Harpole Battershell. He attended Farmer's Ridge school and Dixon Teachers College for 2 years, and taught in the schools of North Calhoun and South Pike counties for 41 years before retiring. Most of his life was spent on the farm during his teaching career. He married Allie Crosby April 11, 1905. She died in 1955. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Farmers Ridge. The last years of his life he lived in Jerseyville. Surviving are a son, Meridice of Jerseyville; a brother, Tom Battershell of Nebo; a sister, Mrs. Elza (Fae) Smith of Nebo; 3 grandchildren and 9 great granchildren. Funeral services were held in Ward funeral chapel Sunday afternoon at 2 pm, with Bro. Jesse Smith officiating. Burial was in Nebo Cemetery.
