Francis "the Weaver" Alexander was said to have immigrated from Raphoe, County Donegal, Ulster, Northern Ireland to Somerset County, MD, around 1670. He later seems to have moved northward to Cecil County, MD along with several of his brothers.

Francis Alexander married Rebecca, whose maiden name is not known. There is no record of any children.

Francis Alexander (1654-unknown) may have been mentioned in Frances Alexander Butterworth's 1909 book entitled "Records of a Family of the House of Alexander". Her book documented that a gentleman named Francis Alexander (1693-1760), son of Samuel and Mary Alexander, purchased a part of a tract of land called Alexandria and Sligo from his uncle who was also named Francis Alexander (1654-unknown). See the printed pages of 27 and 28.
