ROBERT "BUD" LEE CHILES
Robert (Bob, Bud, Charlie) Lee Chiles, 74 of Fulton, died Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Landmark Hospital in Columbia, surrounded by his loving family. Born December 29, 1939, he was the son of the late Ambrose Alonzo Chiles and Frankie Mae (Malicoat) Chiles. On June 6, 1959, he married Doris Mearl Saling, who preceded him in death January 1, 2006. On May 29, 2008, he married Linda Snow Oliver, who survives of the home.
Bob worked as a brick plant/clay processing operator over the years at HK Porter, Harbison Walker, AP Greene, and Christy Minerals. When he retired, he and Doris developed his dream job, to own a family clay mining operations plant. The plant became operational in 1999 under the name Chiles Works and continues today. Bob was very active in the Lions Club in Fulton, Harvestor/St. Peters, and Columbia areas. Bob served as past presidents of both Lions and Mining Industrial Council. He was an Elder at FCC. He loved the outdoors; building cabins, hunting and fishing, playing cards and taking annual fishing trips to Canada with friends were some favorite pasttimes. He cherished family time with scout trips, casino adventures, Cardinal ballgames, and travel - surviving a tsunami in Hawaii. Bob was strong yet gentle, kind, always humorous, and as his friends say "made you a better man" and will be greatly missed. Survivors include a brother, Bill Chiles; daughter, Brenda (Mark) Martin; son, Richard (Jennifer Glover) Chiles; grandchildren, Daniel (Alyssa) Martin, Robert Martin, Tara Gall; step-children, Melissa (Jim) Maupin, Kevin (Elizabeth) Oliver; step-grandchildren, Dalyne and Dale Test; Andrew, Jonathan, Benjamin Oliver; Amber Austin, Erik Ross; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce; two brothers, Kenneth Wayne and Roger Dale Chiles. We will celebrate Bob's life with visitation time for family and friends Thursday, June 5, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m., both services held at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church of Fulton.
