Mildred Virginia Dean, 94, of Harrisonburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 1, 2014 at Avante Nursing Home.
Miss Dean was born on December 8, 1919 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Peter A. and Madeline (Smith) Dean. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Dean and three brothers, Leon Dean, Marvin Dean, and Norman Dean.
Mildred is survived by two sons, Nolan W. Dean and Terry L. Dean; two sisters, Audrey Spitzer and Bonnie Ray; three grandchildren, Wendi Dean, Amanda and Kasey Dean; and two great-grandchildren, Ty Dean and Madeline Rogers, all of Harrisonburg.
Miss Dean attended Linville Edom School and was employed by Swift and Company for over 30 years. She was a member of Antioch United Church of Christ. She was a resident of Avante Nursing Home for the last eight years where she was surrounded by many friends and loving, caring employees whom she expressed her appreciation for daily.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday June 3, 2014 from 7 until 8 pm at the McMullen Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 4 at 11 AM at Antioch United Church of Christ, 4107 Fort Lynne Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22802 with Pastor Roger Dove officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
