Cary was the son of the famous Civil War Union General Frank Blair. Cary Montgomery Blair was the manager of the Huntsville Abstract Company in Huntsville, Alabama when he married Emily Johnson in 1890. Sadly, Emily died on Sept 19, 1891, 11 months after her marriage and 16 days after giving birth to their only child, Francis Preston Blair III, on Sept 3, 1891. Emily was interred in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland, the home place of her mother and many of her ancestors. Later census records show that the child was raised by his father Cary's brother Andrew Alexander Blair in Philadelphia, Pa. In one of those census records Francis is listed as Andrew's "adopted son." From other census records it seems that Cary Blair moved to Texas after his wife's death and remained a widow the rest of his life. On his death certificate his job is listed as being a steward on a railroad dining car.

Concerning the child Francis, he is mentioned in the Dec 23, 1913 issue of the Frederick News Post (Frederick, Maryland), as one of the survivors of Anna Mobberly Johnson. Anna was the widow of Dr. James T Johnson and the mother of Emily Johnson Blair. According to the death notice Francis P Blair of Philadelphia was Anna's grandson.
Francis died Jun 1, 1943 while in London, England and was interred in Slough Cemetery. On his death certificate issued in London his wife was listed as Henriette Blair, residing at the Delmonico Hotel, New York, New York. I do not know if Francis is still in Slough Cemetery or if he was moved to the U.S. and reinterred.
