Piety Katherine “Katie” Ford Hyde was born on March 16, 1884, to Doctor Courtney Ford and Louisa Groves Ford in Louisiana. She was the wife of William Lee Hyde and mother of two children, Ollie Lyle Hyde and Lilla Mae Hyde (Thomas). Katie died of a heart attack during revival services at Shiloh Baptist Church. An eye witness account of this event was printed in a book compiled in honor of the church’s 150th anniversary. In this recollection J. Cloud recalls that during those days of revival, before the service began there would be a time of testimony and on this particular day, July 14, 1958, Katie Hyde decided to speak.

The written account of that day concludes like this:
A lady I knew very well, Mrs. Katie Hyde, stood, gave her testimony and then shouted. When she sat down she slumped over on the person sitting next to her. Miss Katie left us right then and there to go to be with her Savior. She was carried by car to the hospital to no avail. I will always remember this day and remember her singing in the choir, willing to give her testimony and shouting and giving twice in the offering plate.
The service continued with a visiting preacher doing the preaching. I doubt anyone remembered anything he preached. The sermon heard that day was; be prepared to meet God, you never know when He might call you home.
-J. Cloud

Katie was buried the following day in Shiloh Church’s cemetery.
