CALDWELL - Services for Miss Bess Steunenberg, 83, 210 Cleveland, who died Thursday at a Caldwell nursing home, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the Presbyterian Church of Caldwell with Dr. William Chalker and the Rev. Frank Steunenberg officiating. Interment will be at Canyon Hill Cemetery.
She was born on April 11, 1891, in Caldwell. She saw the town of Caldwell grow from a small village to its present state. She was the author of several reminiscent articles on early Caldwell.
She was educated in the preparatory department of the College of Idaho, completing her high school course in 1910. Her collegiate work was at Drake University and the College of Idaho, where she graduated in 1914. She joined the College of Idaho staff in 1921 and became its first official registrar, holding that position for 35 years.
She had been an active member of Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church for many years, was a long-time member of the PEO and a member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers.
Surviving are a brother, Dr. Tom B. Steunenberg, Caldwell; two nephews, Dr. Robert K. Steunenberg, Naperville, Ill., and Dr. A.F. Steunenberg, Pleasanton, Calif.; and two cousins, George L. and Frank B. Crookham, both of Caldwell.
