Josiah Worthen Prescott was the son of Joseph Prescott and Lydia Worthen. He was born in Bridgewater, New Hampshire in 1793. He was one of twelve children. He married Dorothy Smith Leavitt on May 25, 1817 in Meridith, New Hampshire at the age of 24 yrs. He and Dorothy became the parents of twelve children; Ira B, Josiah W., Sylvester S., Mary J., Smith S., Julia, Joseph Rush, Aaron W. and Arah W. who were twins, Susan A., Charles S. and Delano C. Josiah served in the War of 1812, doing garrison duty at Portsmouth, N.H. He died on Feb 11, 1882 in Deerfield, New Hampshire at the age of 89 yrs.
