Robert Simpson of Ireland (Scotland?)

Grace McShaw of Ireland

Note: Incorrect Census Report lists his birth place as New York.

He was a farmer who put down his tools and became a well known political figure, voted to serve in the Arkansas State Legislature.

♥ Wedding Anniversary December 13, 1877 ♥

On December 13, 1877 was the loving union of Robert Emmet Simpson and Missouri "Sue" Adeline Arnold. They brought into this world ten children and two died in infancy. It is possible one infant was named Charles.

In my family archives there is a three column newspaper eulogy article written in Hope, Arkansas about my Great Grandfather's life. He was devoted to his Methodist faith, with the expectation of his children following in his footsteps. His sons and grandsons went on to serve our country and/or be in fraternal organizations.

Historical Notes from Gwen Simpson Morgan my dad's cousin(her father was Owen Simpson, son of Samuel Simpson): Our grandpa Robert was among some Irish soldiers, who were captured and due to be executed. He and some of the soldiers escaped and as they were running through the woods grandpa heard lots of gunshots. He kept going through and made his way to a canal where a ship's captain took him aboard and hid him in some mattresses. The British soldiers came aboard and searched the ship, in the process running their swords through the mattresses. Somehow or other they missed grandpa and he landed in one piece in America. He made a return trip home several years later, but his family made him leave because the British were still looking for him. And we are the results.

Held in our hearts ♥

Your Great-Granddaughter,
