Edward Chaska immigrated to the United States from Austria (notes say Prague), in 1875. In 1880, he was working as a dry good clerk, and living on Lafayette Street with a F. C. Boesner, a jeweler. By 1900, he had purchased a house on Main Street and was married to Marie Meyer. They had been married twelve years. Marie's brother, Gus, was living with them and worked as a decorator.

His home at 716 West Main Street, Waxahachie, Texas is now a Bed & Breakfast called The Chaska House. It is a historical that is beautifully maintained.
