Miss Marie J. Bierbaum died at her home in Clayton township on Saturday evening, Sept. 24th, at 8:15 after an illness of only a few days. She had reached the age of 66 years, 10 months and 22 days. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Braun officiating. Interment in the new cemetery.

Marie J. Bierbaum was born as the third oldest child of J. F. Bierbaum and his wife Justena, nee Bruns, on Nov. 2, 1860, in Clayton township. She attended school in Hawkeye District and was confirmed by Rev. Erbens in 1874. In 1891 she went to Manly where she was engaged as practical nurse for many years. In 1900 she underwent a serious operation but fully recovered her strength and lived a useful life for over a quarter of a century more. The last seven years she spent with her sister Lucy on the old Bierbaum homestead, where she was taken sick the first of the week. She gradually grew weaker, but suffered no pain and passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, leaving three sisters, Miss Lucy Bierbaum of Clayton township, Mrs. Margaret Schulte of Manly, Mrs. Flora Krasinski of Garnavillo; two brothers, Fred of Clayton township, and Albert of Seattle, Wash.; eleven nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Her mother preceded her in death in 1871, and her father in 1905, also three sisters and two brothers.
