MARCUS D. ARNOLD ANSWERS SUMMONS

DEATH OCCURS AT HOME ON FAYETTE STREET, SATURDAY, JULY 20TH, 1918.

FUNERAL MONDAY AFTERNOON

Born in Hazel Green Township June 20th, 1867. Survived by Wife and One Son.

Marcus D. Arnold passed away at his home on East Fayette street Saturday evening, July 20th, 1918, following an illness of four weeks. On June 24th, while at his son's home on East Main street, Mr. Arnold suffered a stroke of apoplexy, and from that time he began to fail rapidly. A week before his death he suffered a second stroke which proved fatal.

While his last illness was of only four weeks' duration, Mr. Arnold had not been in good health for several years, but was determined to keep up with his work of looking after his farming
interest about Manchester. He was never heard to complain of his physical handicaps under which he labored, but kept the fact even from those who were nearest to him.

Marcus D. Arnold was born in Hazel Green township, Delaware county, June 20th, 1857, and at the time of his death had reached" the life age of 61 years and 1 month. He was united in marriage with Miss Jennie Bennett at Epworth, Iowa, November 7th, 1880, and to them was born one son, Ransom B. Arnold, of this city.

Mr. Arnold is survived by the wife, one son, his aged father, Hiram Arnold of this city, and two brothers, Fred Arnold of Coffins Grove township; Albert Arnold of Hopkinton, and one
half-brother, T N. Arnold of this city; also three sisters, Mrs. Mary Schneider, of Prairie township; Mrs. Emma Daley of Oregon; Mrs. Will Keith of Hopkinton, and one half-sister, Mrs.
H. L. Rann of Manchester. One brother, William Arnold, died at his home in Kansas eight years ago.

The announcement of Mr. Arnold's death will be received by his friends with a sense of deep regret, and is a crushing blow to the wife and son. He possessed those qualities of mind and heart that made him a kind and considerate husband and father, and
a true friend. He was always ready and willing to give assistance to those who came to him when in need. He was unusually kind and considerate to those in his home, and was slow to think ill of any man.

Mr. Arnold spent the greater part of his life in Delaware county. A few years of his life were spent in Cedar Falls, Webster City, and. Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he had farming interests at one time.

Mr. Arnold was a' member of the Modern Woodmen of America, and the Maccabee order. Since he has lived in Manchester he has affiliated with the Congregational church and supported
the organization and attended the services until prevented by illness.

Funeral services were held at the family home on East Fayette street Monday afternoon. Rev. W. J. Suckow had charge of the services. Mr. Suckow was assisted by Rev. C. K. Hudson, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment was made in Oakland
cemetery.

The relatives and friends from a distance to attend the funeral services, were Mrs. J. J. Caruth and son, Clyde, of Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. Leon A. Link, Mr. and Mrs. John Dewhirst,
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Warrell and
daughter, Esther, all of Waterloo; Mrs. Ed. Neilsen of Dubuque; George and Miss Susie Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ross of Epworth, Mr. and Mrs. William Keith and Mr. Albert Arnold of Hopkinton. and Miss Rosa Dewhirst of Ottumwa, Iowa.

Profound sympathy is felt for Mrs. Arnold and the son, in this time of sorrow.
