William Green McGhee died on February 9, 1850, three days after his father Nelson's death. William had been attending to his ailing father and it appears that the same illness that caused Nelson's death also caused William's. Both are buried in the Nelson McGhee Cemetery in Franklin Co, Va.
William married Francis Ann Ramsey on February 3, 1845. After his death, she was left to raise their two young children; John Lodmer and Robert Green McGhee. On the 1850 Franklin County Census she was listed without husband and two children, John, 4 and Robert , 2.
