Johnny Appleseed's Nephew, Once Hicksville Resident, Dies of Injury
Funeral for Eben M. Chapman, 77, nephew of the famed John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, were to be held at Spencerville, Ind., today from the Roscoe Walter funeral home. Interment was to be in the Spencerville cemetery.
Mr. Chapman, who gained considerable publicity last year while investigating the burial place of his noted uncle, died in a Fort Wayne hospital where he had been confined for several months after fracturing a hip in a fall.
He was a former resident of Hicksville and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Chapman, pioneer residents of west of Hicksville.
Surviving are three sons, William and H. J., Fort Wayne, and Charles, Spencerville.
