Virginia Beach, VA - William L. "Bill" Cox passed away October 1, 2013 with his family by his side. He was born June 19, 1917 in Edmore, ND. He was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Robert M. Cox. After graduating from the University of North Dakota in 1939 he was employed by Cargill, Inc.
In October 1941 his Reserve Army Commission was activated and he served with the Army Ordinance Department during World War II until 1946. Returning to Cargill, Inc. he held management positions in several cities until his retirement in 1983. He was an active member of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Madeleine; his two daughters Patricia Conrad, and husband, Daniel A. Conrad, and Debra Cox Gray, and husband Philip V. Gray; three grandchildren, Dr. Scott Conrad, and his wife Whitney, Brad and Sarah Gray; and three great-grandchildren, Will, Spencer, and Clay Conrad.
A memorial service will be held at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church at noon Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Following the service there will be a gathering of friends and family at the Princess Anne Country Club. A private burial will be held at a later date at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Music Department of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the cremation.
