His death date needs verified. According to his siblings' depositions in their father's Civil War Pension File, he was killed by a horse. His brother Joseph said he was killed 05 May 1880. It is unknown where he is buried. He was definitely dead by 1882, as his wife Margaret "Maggie" Holliday Bowman, who he married about 1876, remarried to his brother John W. Bowman, about 1882, and their first child together was born 13 February 1883. Margaret "Maggie" Holliday Bowman, wife of both Bowman brothers (William and John W.) died about 1894. I am seeking those marriage records and information about her death. William is last seen in the 1880 Census in Marshall County, West Virginia, taken on 07 June 1880. Thus, if 05 May is his death date, it was likely 1881 or 1882, as he was apparently still here on 07 June 1880.
