Silas Orville Strait, 72, of Bloomville, passed away at 2:34 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Tiffin Mercy Hospital with his daughter by his side.

Silas was born December 18, 1941, in Harrisburg, PA to the late Silas M. and Jessie Mae (McKinney) Strait. He married Dora (Perry) in Tiffin, on April 13, 1970 and she survives in Bloomville.

Survivors include his two daughters, Elizabeth (Robert) Shultz of Republic, Amanda Strait of Bloomville, three brothers, Clarence Strait of Tiffin, Joseph Strait and Raymond Strait both of Green Springs, a sister, Irene Corfman of Sycamore, five grandchildren, Shonta Strait, Jessie Rowlett, Crystal Strait, Mikel Essary, Serenity Strait, and seven great-grandchildren. Silas retired from the Army and later the National Guard serving during Vietnam while being stationed in Germany. Silas was a member of the Tiffin American Legion.

Silas was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Daniel Strait, two brothers, Bennett Strait and Leonard Strait.

A memorial service for Silas will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin with Military rites being rendered by the United Veterans Council. Burial will be at the Pleasant View cemetery in Sycamore at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
