Richard George Berglund, 83, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Pine Medical Center in Sandstone.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 10, at the Danforth Community Chapel with Pastor Peter Dobson officiating.

Full military honors were by the Sandstone American Legion Post #151 Honor Guard.

Richard was born February 12, 1931, in Minneapolis to George and Ellen (Rasmusson) Berglund. He moved with his family to Askov and attended Bear Creek School, a one -room schoolhouse. In 1941, he moved to Sturgeon Lake and attended the Churchill School before moving to the Danforth community in 1944 where he attended the Danforth School, another one-room schoolhouse.

Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army, served from 1951-1953, and was stationed in Newfoundland. He married Lydia Tocholke in 1954. He farmed and was also a school bus driver. Richard was a member of the American Legion, the Danforth Community Chapel and a board member of the Pine County Historical Society.

He was preceded death by his parents; his sister, Virginia Olsen and his brother, Ronald Berglund.
